Joomla! is a well supported OpenSource Content Management System (CMS) that can be run out of the box or customized to the Nth degree to meet your needs. You would have a hard time finding a type of website that cannot be built using Joomla.

There are so many things you can do online. Your website is is just a part of your online presence.

You can blog, podcast, run newsletters and ezines, post articles, sell goods, services, membership sites, training, chat, have discussions on forums, share photos and video, talk to your friends for free with skype, get paid online with paypal, manage events and the list goes on and on for what seems like forever!

Then once you finally get down to business - you need to learn how to work with whatever it is you are building your website/online presence with. This is where it gets rough. First and foremost the language used to talk about software is geek speak at best.

Serendipity - The best platform there is for blogging and podcasting!  Sure Wordpress is popular but Serendipity is WAY better!

Moodle - Online Learning and Ecourse delivery.  The only full fledged opensourced online school.

Zencart - Standalone Online Store.  If you only need an online store this is the one to use.  I still prefer Virtuemart in Joomla but sometimes this is better for the end user.

Post Affiliate Pro - Online Partners program software.  The only paid program I really promote but for good reason...

Vtiger - Do you have customers? Customer Relationship Management (I use this for billing and invoicing - it does SO much more)

WebCEO - Need to know web data? Tracks everything from search engine positions to PPC conversion tracking in real time. I use the paid service from them for tracking online campaigns at CTA.

LimeSurvey - Need to collect data in the form of surveys or assessments?  Check out this free survey tool, you won't be dissapointed!
